Start at 5% if you’ve not used niacinamide before, or if your skin is on the sensitive side. Most of the research showing niacinamide reduces oil and breakouts was done at around 2 to 5%, so 5% isn’t a weaker option, it’s the well-studied one. Move to 8% or 10% only if you’ve been on 5% for a couple of months and want more. Above 10% the extra benefit thins out and irritation becomes more likely.
