Is this the same as kalonji oil?

Yes, it’s the same thing. Kalonji, black seed, black cumin, habbat-us-sauda, Nigella sativa. All different names for oil pressed from the same seed. Reviticals Skin Revival Oil is cold-pressed kalonji oil, filtered for use on the face rather than in cooking, so it’s cleaner and lighter than the kalonji oil you’d buy at a pansaar shop.

Will it make my face greasy?

No. Black seed oil is what’s called a dry oil, so it sinks in fast instead of sitting on top. Use 4 to 5 drops of Skin Revival Oil before bed and your skin should feel soft in the morning, not slick. If it still feels heavy, you’re using too much. Drop down to 2 or 3.

Can I use it if my skin is oily or breaks out?

Yes, and honestly it suits that skin type better than most oils do. Oily skin is often short on linoleic acid, which this oil has plenty of. Thymoquinone, the main active in black seed, also helps settle the redness around a fresh breakout. Start with three or four nights a week. If your acne is active rather than just occasional, our Acne-Dote Serum is built for that and layers underneath this oil.

How long until I see something?

Softer, better hydrated skin usually shows up in the first week or two. Breakouts calming down takes longer, closer to 3 to 6 weeks of using it every night. Texture, old marks and fine lines are a few months at minimum. It varies from person to person, and using it consistently matters far more than using a lot.

Does it smell?

Not really, and we’re not going to pretend otherwise. Retinol has decades of research behind it and this doesn’t replace that. What it does give you is an option if retinol is too harsh for your skin. No stinging, no purging phase, fine to use every night. If you already get on well with retinol, use both rather than swapping one for the other.

Can I use it with vitamin C or niacinamide?

Yes. Oil always goes last, after your watery serums, so it seals them in rather than sitting in the way. Our Vitamin C Serum in the morning and Skin Revival Oil at night is a common pairing, and Niacinamide Serum layers underneath the oil at night if you’re targeting oil control. If you’re also using retinol or a strong acid, alternate nights at first. That way if something irritates your skin you’ll know what caused it.

My skin is sensitive. Do I need to patch test?

Please do, even though it’s a gentle oil. There’s no fragrance, parabens, mercury or steroids in it, and it’s usually fine on reactive and rosacea-prone skin. Still, put a little on your jawline or inner arm for three nights first. If you see any redness or irritation, stop using it. If you’d rather not commit to a full bottle, we do samples.

Should I use kalonji oil or argan, rosehip or jojoba?

Depends what you’re dealing with. Kalonji oil is the one to pick for breakouts, redness and inflamed skin, because it’s high in linoleic acid and thymoquinone. Rosehip is better if pigmentation and old marks are your main worry. Argan is richer and suits genuinely dry, mature skin, though it can feel heavy on oily skin. Jojoba is the safest starting point if you’ve never used a face oil, but it’s also the least active. If your skin is oily and breaking out and you’re choosing one bottle, kalonji is usually the better call.

How is this different from the kalonji oil at a pansaar shop?

Most kalonji oil sold locally is pressed for cooking or hair, not for faces. It’s often heat-extracted, which damages the thymoquinone, and it usually sits in clear plastic on a shelf for months, where light and heat break it down further.
