Which concentration should I choose — 5%, 10%, 12%, 15% or 20%?
Start at 5% if you’ve never used vitamin C, or if your skin flares easily. 10% or 12% suits most people and is where the research on brightening and dark spots mostly sits. Go to 15% or 20% only if you’ve already used a lower strength for a couple of months without trouble. Higher isn’t automatically better. Absorption tops out around 20%, and on brown and deeper skin tones irritation can actually leave more pigmentation than you started with. That’s the mistake we see most often. If you’re unsure, message us on WhatsApp and tell us your skin type.
The standard bottle is 12% L-ascorbic acid, and that’s what ships if you order straight from this page. We also make it at 5%, 10%, 15% and 20%. We don’t change anything else in the formula, only the percentage of active vitamin C. Every bottle is mixed after you order rather than pulled off a shelf, which is why we can do this at all.
Morning, on clean dry skin, before your moisturiser. Vitamin C works alongside sunscreen against the daily damage from UV and pollution, so that’s when it earns its place. You can use it at night too, but if you’re only doing it once a day, make it the morning. One thing that isn’t optional: sunscreen afterwards. Consistency and sunscreen matter far more than the strength you choose.
No, and we’d rather be honest about that than sell you something we can’t deliver. Vitamin C doesn’t change the skin tone you were born with, and no serum does. What it does is slow down excess pigment production, which fades dark spots, sun tanning and acne marks. So your tone looks more even and your skin looks brighter and less dull. That’s a real, visible difference, and it’s a different thing from becoming fairer. Anything claiming otherwise is either overpromising or contains something you shouldn’t be putting on your face.
Because it’s the form with the strongest evidence behind it. L-ascorbic acid is what most of the published research on brightening and collagen actually uses, and your skin can use it directly without converting it first. Derivatives like sodium ascorbyl phosphate or ethyl ascorbic acid are gentler and last longer in the bottle, but they have to convert in your skin, and how much of that happens is less certain. The trade-off with L-ascorbic acid is stability.
